In the 1970’s, off the back of the British Invasion movement, Caroline Charles’ popularity soared in the States. In this time, Caroline travelled throughout America, awe-inspired by the wide open spaces. Drawing on this wild spirit of adventure, Caroline has infused her Autumn Winter collection with Prairie and Western influences.
Sketches from the era show the languid layering and relaxed confidence that would become a signature of her brand. The fantastic tiered-dresses and puffed Prairie sleeves inspired new season designs, dreamt up by Caroline and her team in the London studio.
Cut from a sleek Italian poplin, the scoop neck, long puffed sleeves and tiered midi skirt of the NORAH dress brings Prairie charm to the modern day. Best paired with boots that disappear under the hemline, layer with cosy angora knitwear when temperatures drop for a land-girl look that is as at home on city streets as it is on country plains.
A patchwork of windswept blooms brings folkloric whimsy to the MAGGIE dress. The brushed twill cloth is soft and warm when applied to a generously swirling skirt and full sleeves.
